De Koog

De Koog is a very little town located in the Texel municipal area of the North Holland province in the Netherlands. Texel municipality is an island, which is the biggest of the Frisian Islands with the population of 13,000 people. De Koog itself have the population of about 1,200 people and can boast the title of the most popular tourist destination of the Island despite its little size. The island of Texel consists of seven villages De Cocksdorp, De Koog, De Waal, Den Burg, Den Hoorn, Oosterend, and Oudeschild and other small settlements. Originally in the middle ages Texel included two islands and was recognized as a city in the early 15 century. But later the two parts were connected and now it is the barrier between the Wadden Sea, where Texel is located, and the North Sea.

One of the main features of De Koog and Texel is its nature. Almost one third of the whole territory of the island is protected as the natural reserve. The economy of De Koog as the whole island is based on tourism. Due to the natural beauty the main types of tourism are cycling, walking, swimming and horse riding. There is located a developed system of cycling routes in De Koog. Transport system of the island is mainly presented by buses, cars and bicycles. But despite its small population the island has its own Texel International Airport. Its main activities are skydiving and serving small planes.
